About the Garden...
Portage Community Garden has existed in Portage since 2012 due to the care and commitment of the many volunteers over the years. As an extension of Real Life Community Church, the mission of the garden is to "set the table for people to serve their neighbors through healthy produce and community engagement."
How Does The Garden Work?
Great question! PCG operates in a couple of ways. FIRST, produce is grown by volunteers in designated areas for distribution through local food pantries. These beds are obvious because of signage. SECOND, PCG offers a limited number of beds to rent by members of the community for their own use, or to grow produce to share with others on the community "sharing shelf."
Other areas of the garden such as the orchards and any other ares are designed to be utilized by volunteers for food distribution via the sharing shelf and/or through local food pantries.
PLEASE NOTE: The PCG is not a "free pick" garden. Any available free produce to the community is either available on the sharing shelf or through local food pantries where our food is delivered.
